FALL INTO PLACE  FALL INTO PLACE  FALL INTO PLACE  FALL INTO PLACE

FOR DANCE
FESTIVAL

6.9—2.10
2022

Dance is a way to take up a space and take a leave, a way to fall into where you belong at a given time and move on.
Even more, dance proposes ways to move beyond the “libido of belonging,” to situate this constitutive desire without being bound by it. To move in every direction, assume all identities, form odd kinships, know all commons, disclose new scripts, weave circumstances.
MAIN FEST 7
Featuring 7 original dance works, 3 in their world premiere and 4 in their debut in Athens, the nucleus of ARC15 engages with the age-old question of belonging — a question that returns with a new force after the pandemic, within a fundamentally altered sociocultural reality.
ARC15 proposes an understanding of belonging that allows things/us to naturally “fall into place”; to take space and leave again; to be of someplace (of someone, of something, of sometime) but not be bound by it.

ARC_HITECTS 4
Realizing its programmatic goal to help foster a rich ecosystem for dance in Greece, ARC15 presents works that cross boundaries between artistic expressions, creative languages and conditions of experiencing artworks. The ARC_hitects module of ARC15 inhabits the spaces of art institutions and museums, film and virtual reality, and suggests a displacement of dance that helps empower its presence and broaden its perspective.

ARC_HOOD 2
Opening up to the streets, to the contingency of public spaces, to the random response of the passerby, the ARC_hood module of ARC15 features two short dance performances, on alternate days, in the open space in front of the Municipal Theater of Piraeus. Mingling with various audiences that usually occupy or cross this space, these works “on the outside” of the theater will unsettle the ways we tend to perceive spectacle, thus introducing the festival within.

PRIME MOVERS 4
In the ARC_prime movers module of ARC15, a new generation of Greek choreographers transcribes its broader creative vision as well as its specific experience within the country’s context. A polyphony of intuitions, expressions, voices and bodies imagines and crafts, through a series of new works, the future of the dance landscape in Greece.

The festival’s ARC_dialogues module makes this polyphony accessible to a wider public. Via conversations with choreographer Chrysanthi Badeka, the young creators share their influences, concerns and creative processes and answer questions from the audience.

HOTHOUSES 4
Τhe pedagogy of movement has consistently been a key concern of ARC for Dance Festival. Aiming to enhance the knowledge about developments in dance techniques, the elements composing the ever-changing language of dance, its conceptual and representational idioms, the ARC_hothouse module of ARC15 consists of a series of seminars-workshops for professional dancers, led by experienced instructors.

ARC_FLOW 1

Building on our fresh memories of quarantine confinement, ARC15 continues the practice of live-streaming performances of the four-day main festival online. More than that, the ARC_flow module seeks to address the issue of “broadcasting” as it relates to dance, and thus open a wider discussion on the significance of presence, the economy of experience in the internet era, and the politics of accessibility.

29/9–2/10
Online

Warping; becoming-with; wild love; inflammatory counterpoints & reconciliations; the poetics of imperfection and instability; tuning into the sound of others; fugitive patternings; murmurations; mid-air suspension; radical questioning of territories; warding off fears — all dance works in this year’s ARC15 fall into this special place where belonging is a choice to go-along-with.
